Avoiding Scams and Myths about WAH

Over my years of working with Virtual Call Centers as an independent rep I've found that many people fear scams and broken promises. I've created this entry to provide information to help you pick the right WAH (Work at Home) center for you.....Lets take a look at some of the things many people fear when entering this field of work....

  1. Scams- literally chances of being scammed are high. Over  70% of website on the web are scams. However, there is hope.
    1. Rule one research the company. There are many websites that focus on pointing out scam call centers.... Then also some Call Centers just have a bad reputation... you may wanna stay away from those.
    2.  Ridiculous training costs and the hiding of costs
      1. Many call centers do charge for training. However, they normally charge between $5 to $250 depending on the call center
      2. Watch out for crazy scheme that don't explain your job descriptions. If the only description is you can make 5000 in a week. RUN!!!!! It more likely it's a scam. Realistically without any special certifications  you can make as much as $3000 a month in income. It also depends on you overall time and energy you put into to complete your job.
  2. Background Checks
    1. Some call centers do require you to pay for a background check once they except you for the position.
      1. If they ask you to pay before your accepted or hire you. Do some research it may be a scam.
      2. Check the amount it costs in your state for a background check. If the amount you find greatly exceeds that amount. Research the company as check to see if it has be reported for scams. The most I've paid for a background check in NJ is around $25- $70.
  3. Convicts- I truly think there just looking for folks without any financial fraud crimes. So I would say still apply. They might not be concern about jail time for drugs charges. I'm not naming no  names but I know a few felony convicts that are working from home.
  4. Training- Some training is hybrid with virtual courses and Virtual Classes with instructors.
    1. Sadly some company do charge pricey for training. For example, Arise Solutions charges from $39.00 to $199.99 for the clients training as well as their own. Arise does pay you while you complete training. Their legit but they got a few complaints as lawsuit troubles. Tread carefully with them.
    2. If training cost doesn't make you feel comfortable. Do your research and check if they have been reported as a scam before you swipe that card.
  5. Communication or the Lacking of it
    1. Most call centers I worked for either have an internal communication system that's similar to email. Meaning you have to write to support when have issues. Most call centers  provide a chat communication to speak to supervisor about calls or resolve issues.
    2. Many don't have people you can call into. So no their no customer support for a call center. You got to send an email.
    3. If they never called you back to inform that you where hired. It's more likely they sent you an email. So check those In-boxes
